Sharpe's mission is to go behind enemy lines to find James Rothschild, an undercover agent with a bank draft for badly needed funds. And he is to do so with the help of some Spanish partisans led by Major Blas Vivar and the beautiful but haunted Comandante Teresa Moreno. But who are these shadowy figures? And are they on Sharpe's side or on Napoleon's?
