Napoleon Bonaparte ( originally Napoleone Buonoparte) was born on the Island of Corsica in 1769 (the same year as his later rival Arthur Wellesley) and was later nicknamed the ogre of Corsica. He came to power in 1792, two years after the French Revolution.
He was crowned on the 18th of May 1804 at Notre Dame cathedral. After Waterloo, he was captured by the Royal Navy and exiled to St Helene until his death in 1821.
